Computational modelling of auditory streaming phenomena

چکیده
A computer model is described that uses simple physiological principles that operate mainly at a peripheral level to account for perceptual coherence among successive pure tones of changing frequency. Using a single set of parameter values, the model is able to reproduce a number of fundamental auditory streaming phenomena. These include the build-up of auditory stream segregation over time, and the temporal coherence and fission boundaries of human listeners. Whereas these streaming phenomena are generally accounted for in terms of a high-Ievel auditory scene-analysis process, the success of the model in reproducing experimental data obtained from humans justifies the potential value of a low-level analysis for explaining auditory grouping phenomena, and suggests that some auditory grouping may be the product of low-level auditory processing.

Modelling and Scheduling Lot Streaming Flexible Flow Lines
Although lot streaming scheduling is an active research field, lot streaming flexible flow lines problems have received far less attention than classical flow shops. This paper deals with scheduling jobs in lot streaming flexible flow line problems. The paper mathematically formulates the problem by a mixed integer linear programming model. This model solves small instances to optimality. Moreo...

Sounds provide us with useful information about our environment which complements that provided by other senses, but also poses specific processing problems. How does the auditory system distentangle sounds from different sound sources? And what is it that allows intermittent sound events from the same source to be associated with each other? Here we review findings from a wide range of studies...
متن کاملModelling the Emergence and Dynamics of Perceptual Organisation in Auditory Streaming
Many sound sources can only be recognised from the pattern of sounds they emit, and not from the individual sound events that make up their emission sequences. Auditory scene analysis addresses the difficult task of interpreting the sound world in terms of an unknown number of discrete sound sources (causes) with possibly overlapping signals, and therefore of associating each event with the app...
متن کاملA Detection-Theoretic Analysis of Auditory Streaming and Its Relation to Auditory Masking
Research on hearing has long been challenged with understanding our exceptional ability to hear out individual sounds in a mixture (the so-called cocktail party problem). Two general approaches to the problem have been taken using sequences of tones as stimuli. The first has focused on our tendency to hear sequences, sufficiently separated in frequency, split into separate cohesive streams (aud...

This paper deals with the numerical solution of a class of reaction diffusion equations arises from ecological phenomena. When two species are introduced into unoccupied habitat, they can spread across the environment as two travelling waves with the wave of the faster reproducer moving ahead of the slower. The mathematical modelling of invasions of species in more complex settings that include ...
